Essent has signed a three-year deal with construction company Strukton to offset the CO2 emissions from its use of natural gas. The emissions will be compensated using Gold Standard Certificates, the highest quality standard for carbon credits.

“The Gold Standard gives us the ability to further develop our profile as a socially responsible company,” said Piet Fischer, head of Strukton Facilities. “By offering these certificates, Essent has distinguished itself from competitors. We will, therefore, put as many energy contracts as possible under this framework agreement.”

”The Gold Standard meets the stringent requirements for climate compensation and is only awarded to sustainable projects that have a positive impact on both the environment and the local society,” Auke van Stralen, manager Value Chain Development at Essent B2B said. “Strukton has the ambition to become completely CO2 neutral and we at Essent want to help them achieve this goal.” Essent supplied Strukton with Gold Standard certificates from the Mamak Landfill gas recovery project in Turkey.

By choosing Gold Standard certificates, Strukton not only offsets its carbon emissions, but also contributes to other future sustainable energy projects. As such, Strukton is playing an active role in the transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy.

Projects carrying the Gold Standard label, can only be validated by independent accredited organisations under the UN Climate Convention.
